Why did Leader Electronics Corp. develop CINELITE II?
Camera equipment ranges from film cameras to digital cameras. However, image dynamic range of a digital signal is limited compared to the dynamic range of film.
Therefore, it is important to execute more precise video level monitoring in order to avoid blown highlights and blocked-in shadows using digital cameras and keep the video level within 0 - 700mV (0% - 100%).
Exposure meters are generally used to confirm the conditions of shooting (brightness of image) in the fields. Therefore, we developed a video level monitoring tool "CINELITE II", which has the same feature as an exposure meters (measuring the brightness of an image) and monitors the shooting conditions precisely, easily and quickly.
Even if you are inexperienced in wave observation using a wave monitor, when you use the CINELITE II features you can monitor the video level of any image point by checking the shooting image.

What is the difference between CINELITE and CINELITE II?
CINELITE is one of the video wave monitoring features that Leader Electronics Corp. has proposed. CINELITE has a spot relative exposure display and video level display features, and measures the exposure difference between two points on the recorded image and an absolute value of the video level.
CINELITE II is a collective term of two features, CINELITE and CINEZONE. CINEZONE is the coloring feature that adjusts color according to the brightness level on screen under the picture display conditions of wave monitor. While CINELITE is useful to confirm the exact level of brightness, CINEZONE is useful to confirm the representation of required brightness of the entire screen at a glance.

What are the features of CINELITE?
CINELITE can measure the luminance (brightness, RGB level) values of a specific place on the screen of the picture display screen of wave monitor.
  • Precisely:
    The measured value is accurate because the SDI output signal of the camera is directly measured. The conventional brightness measurement is indirect using an exposure meter (light meter). Since the difference of the measured value varies according to the direction the exposure meter is facing and the place to be measured, the experience of the measurer is an important element in obtaining a correct measurement.

  • Simply:
    When you move the cursor to a specific place on the picture display screen, you can measure the video level (brightness or RGB level). Therefore, this wave monitor is easy and intuitive to use, even for novices.
  • Briefly:
    Since you can save the lighting setting time, which is the most time consuming job at the shooting site, you can reduce your cost.

What are the features of CINEZONE?
CINEZONE colors the strong and weak areas of brightness on the picture display so you can judge the conditions of luminance (brightness) of the entire screen.
Since you can monitor the video level of the entire image while recording with a camera, you can shoot without error.
  • Precisely:
    You can measure the strong and weak areas of brightness with 0.1% accuracy by using the SDI output signal of the shooting camera. According to the brightness level, it is colored from blue 0% to red 100%. Therefore, you can quickly judge the entire brightness distribution of the image.
    This is particularly effective when you wish to confirm that a dark scene is properly recorded.
  • Simply:
    Since you can easily confirm the effects of each light source to an object on the picture display screen in real time, the wave monitor is easy and intuitive to use, even for novices.
  • Briefly:
    Since you can save the lighting setting time, which is the most time consuming job at the shooting site, you can reduce your costs.
    Since you can monitor the video level of the entire image while recording with a camera, you can shoot without error.

What are the application fields of CINELITE and CINEZONE?
We recommend the following four applications.
  • Suitable for use in movie-making.
    Movies are produced when a cameraman precisely films images that the movie director has imagined. CINELITE and CINEZONE make contributions to the lighting settings in order to create those images.
  • Suitable for use in study materials of professional training colleges related to movie production.
    Instructors can easily teach the technologies of lighting and camera shooting (exposure, focus, color adjustment) to their students. Camera equipment ranges from film to digital. Students study that the dynamic range of digital shooting is limited compared to that of film (0mV - 700mV), and improve their shooting skills using a wave monitor.
  • Suitable for use in CM video production companies.
    Video production companies can objectively prove that the color of products has been captured accurately by showing that color (RGB value) of the client''s product matches the RGB value measured by CINELITE. In addition, you can produce colors of automobiles and drinking water, which were difficult to reproduce previously.
  • Suitable for use by post-production companies.
    Post-production uses the capture information (brightness or RGB level) of shooting and reproduces the original color and editing operation. Our products avoid the need for such editing operation.

CINELITE has many measurement features. What are they?
The following three measurement displays are supported.
  • "Display of %", measurement mode mainly used for video engineers.
    The brightness level (0mV - 700mV) that a user selects with the cursor is displayed from 0% - 100%. You can measure skin tone values of the maximum/minimum brightness and other objects in the entire movie at the same time because two or three points can be measured with the cursor.

  • "Display of RGB", measurement mode mainly used for video editors.
    The brightness (0mV - 700mV) of a place selected with the cursor is displayed at 8 bit resolution 0 - 255 of each RGB component. This RGB data is recorded during shooting and is used for editing. Editors can precisely reproduce the colors that were filmed.
    (The color management of editing software is generally done by RGB (0 - 255)). [0 - 100%] display of RBG is also possible.

  • "F-stop display", measurement mode mainly used for movie directors during shooting.
    The brightness (0mV - 700mV) of a place selected with the cursor is displayed by an F-stop value calculated from the aperture value (F value) of the camera.

Is it possible to adjust to the gamma characteristics of a camera in hand during the F-stop measurement?
There can be done with the F-stop USER settings feature. Please set a separate gamma for each camera using this feature.

I heard that CINEZONE is useful for improving the effects of Chroma key. Why?
In order to improve the effects of Chroma key, it is preferable if the background brightness is even. Since uneven brightness is difficult to judge in an actual movie but can be easily and precisely confirmed by CINEZONE, CINEZONE is useful to quickly set lighting without background unevenness.
